A casserole dish filled with cheesesteak.
Ground Beef and Pepper Casserole with Provolone

Ground beef, onion and green pepper are coated with cream cheese and finished under provolone. Four ounces of provolone melt into the filling and the remaining two ounces cover the top. This is a spoonable beef casserole without bread, pasta or rice baked into it.

A plate of Mongolian ground beef noodles.
Ground Beef Noodles with Ginger and Soy Sauce

Browned ground beef and separately cooked noodles are coated in a sweet soy-and-ginger sauce. Use the noodle package for its boiling time and add the optional starch only after mixing it with cold water. This makes the sauce easier to control than adding dry starch directly to the skillet.

A bowl of ground turkey teriyaki stir fry.
Ground Turkey Teriyaki with Broccoli and Carrots

Ground turkey and vegetables are coated in a separately thickened teriyaki-style sauce with orange zest. Divide the water before heating: three-quarters cup goes into the sauce and one-quarter cup makes the cornstarch slurry. Cook the vegetables before adding the thick sauce so it does not scorch while they soften.

A dish of Amish Hamburger Steak Bake.
Hamburger Steak Bake with Condensed Mushroom Gravy

This hamburger steak bake uses ground-beef patties and a quick gravy made with condensed cream of mushroom soup, milk and Worcestershire sauce. It is the shortcut-sauce version: no butter-and-flour roux is required. Brown the patties, then move directly to the covered oven finish. The surface color tells you about searing; a thermometer tells you whether the ground beef is cooked.

Hamburger steak bake with mashed potatoes and green onions.
Hamburger Steaks with Homemade Creamy Onion Gravy

These hamburger steaks use a homemade gravy thickened with butter and flour, then finished with beef broth and heavy cream. Finely diced onion goes inside the patties; sliced onion belongs in the sauce. That distinction matters because large onion pieces in the meat can create weak spots, while fine pieces in the gravy will not provide the same visible texture.

A close up of a delicious stir fry with shrimp, sausage, and broccoli.
Honey Garlic Shrimp, Smoked Sausage and Broccoli Skillet

Shrimp, smoked sausage and broccoli cook in stages before a honey-garlic sauce brings them together. Check the sausage label first: this quick skillet assumes a fully cooked product. Browned smoked sausage is not automatically ready to eat if its label says it still requires cooking.

A bowl of chicken with peach salsa.
Honey Lime Chicken Peach Salsa Bowls

Warm jasmine rice and honey-lime chicken meet a cool peach salsa in these bowls. Keep the salsa lime juice separate from the chicken glaze quantity. Add honey late in cooking so it does not scorch while the chicken sears.

A bowl of creamy honey pepper chicken mac & cheese.
Honey Pepper Chicken over Stovetop Mac and Cheese

Sliced honey-glazed chicken tops macaroni in a milk-based Cheddar and mozzarella sauce. A flour-and-butter base thickens the milk before the cheeses melt. Keep the chicken glaze and finishing honey separate so the dish receives the intended amounts at the intended stages.

A deliciously spicy and savory hot honey feta chicken dish.
Honey-Marinated Chicken Baked with Feta

Chicken marinates in honey, red wine vinegar, garlic and oregano before baking under feta. The used marinade is discarded, so this method differs from chicken served with a separate clean honey drizzle. Allow refrigerator time before the oven stage and judge doneness in the meat beneath the cheese.
